Below you can find a set of materials aimed towards carrying a site analysis. These materials are not meant to serve as prescriptions but rather as a guide on how a site can be analyzed. They can be adapted to various contexts upon the wishes and the aims of the user.

Non-Normative Actions
A non-normative action was a task given to students as one of the first exercises of the workshop in Oslo (2025). They were asked to make observations at their given site and choose, as a group, one action to do together which challenges their notion of how to behave in public space, and in this site particularly. Public space is loaded with expectations of how to behave and how not to behave. Normativity is played out in these spaces on a regular basis and is often experienced as restrictive. Any deviance from the normative behaviour is well noticed. However, in a Norwegian context, rarely commented.
The goal of this exercise, is to step out of one’s comfort zone as a first small step to be noticed. It is an exercise that ‘breaks the ice’ toward daring to ‘speak out’ and be ‘heard’ in public. It gives the student an experience of being looked at and noticed for behaving different. The non-normative action is part of “stranging” (verb) the space, making something strange that catches attention because it stranges.
