Rike Sitas, a senior researcher at the African Centre for Cities (University of Cape Town) is an interdisciplinary urban scholar, straddling sociology, human geography, cultural studies, visual art and urban design. Her research focuses on three areas: 1) the role of art, culture, and heritage in urban justice and sustainability with a particular focus on urban/cultural policy, public space, and cultural citizenship. 2) culture and technology in African cities, with a particular focus on how young people are (re)arranging how they work, organise and learn. 3) experimental research modes including arts-based research, collaboration and coproduction, and intersectional feminist and queer methods.
