Mwenya Kabwe

Head of Section: Theatre, Centre for Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies at University of Cape Town

Dr Mwenya Kabwe is a Senior Lecturer at the CTDPS and coordinates the 4th year Acting Studio and the Professional Practice courses, as well as conducts postgraduate teaching
and supervision. Kabwe’s creative practice and research is focused on black migrant cultural production, contemporary African theatre and performance, immersive and site-specific
performance work, live art, collaborative and interdisciplinary art making and re-imagining African futures. Kabwe is a Zambian-born maker of theatre and performance, and in addition to her scholarly work, is a facilitator of creative processes, a performer and writer. She has lectured at the UCT Drama Department, Wits School of Arts division of Theatre & Performance, and the Market Theatre Laboratory. She is a co-curator of the Unrehearsed Futures Conversation Series and recent notable works include working with William
Kentridge as the Dramaturg for his latest theatrical production, The Great Yes The Great No, and incubating several collaborative interdisciplinary experiments through The Centre for the Less Good Idea in Johannesburg.
